School Dinners
Lunchbox Contents at Chancel
At Chancel we pride ourselves on being a health promoting school. This guide is to help you and your child prepare lunch; helping them to understand the importance of a healthy approach to eating, through a nutritious well-balanced diet. Below you will find a list of items, you should not include as part of your child’s packed lunch:
Drinks
Fizzy Drinks
High sugar content milk-shakes
Savoury Items
Shell fish, Nuts & nut-based products*
Popcorn (due to choking hazard)
Large/grab bags of crisps
Sweets
Large/full-size chocolate bars or large bags of sweets i.e. Haribos
*Due to life-threatening allergies
Throughout lunchtime, children are supervised by our team of experienced Lunchtime Supervisors; who enjoy rewarding children with praise, stickers, and team-points, for demonstrating: good manners; making healthy choices; and eating all, or most of, their lunch. While children have an hour for lunch, it is beneficial for them to spend a portion of this time, playing with their friends; it is therefore advisable that when organising your child’s lunchbox you give consideration to the length of time it will take your child to eat it. Don’t forget, all children in Reception, Year One and Year Two are entitled to FREE SCHOOL MEALS (which includes a school packed lunch).
We are a ‘Nut Free School’
Allergies
Please ensure staff are made aware of any food allergies your child may have, or who have recently been diagnosed with a food intolerance. As a nut-free school (due to staff and children with life threatening nut allergies), we would like to remind all parents that any food sent into school must not contain nuts. If you would like any advice regarding foods to avoid sending into school, please contact the school office, or school kitchen on: 01889 228710 (office) or 01889 228713 (kitchen).
